Good to know

The practical part, in plain words.

Fishing equipment included

Rods and gear are included with any boat if you want them — just let us know when you book, and it will be ready at the jetty.

Gasoline not included

Fuel is not included in the rental price. You pay for what you use, so a quiet day near shore costs very little.

Which boat for fishing?

For fishing we recommend one of the Kværnø boats. If you only wish to fish close to land, the 9.9 hp boat does the job nicely.

Boating licence. For legal and insurance reasons: to drive a boat with more than 25 hp, you are required to either hold a valid boating licence or be born before 1 January 1980. This applies to the Hansvik 560 Sport and both Kværnø boats. The 9.9 hp boat can be driven without a licence.

How far you get

Out to the banks.

Each boat in the fleet is built for a different water. Follow the route out from our jetty and you can see, in order, which one you actually need.

  1. Leg one · At the jetty

Flat water, no licence, no engine

    At the jetty

Ekkilsøya shelters the water right outside the door. This is where the paddling happens — out among the moorings, along the shoreline, back whenever you feel like it. Nothing to book, nothing to fuel.

  2. Leg two · Inside the skerries

Two kilometres, and the islets take the swell

    2 km out

The low skerries north of Ekkilsøya break the sea before it reaches you, so this stretch stays workable on days the open water is not. It is the 9.9 hp boat's home ground: slow, steady, and legal for anyone to drive.

  3. Leg three · Past the islands

Five kilometres, and the islands fall behind

    5 km out

Open water now, with room to actually go somewhere — under the Atlantic Ocean Road, into a cove with nobody in it, or simply out and back before dinner. You want a boat with some length in it out here.

  4. Leg four · The banks

    Seven point nine kilometres, west-north-west

    7.9 km out

The bottom drops away and the fishing starts in earnest — cod, saithe, haddock, and now and then a halibut. Take one of the Kværnø boats; they have the range and they get you home again comfortably.

Ask us before you cast off. We live here, and we usually know where they are biting.

Catch of the day from the waters around Averøy
From the doorstep

Some of Norway's best fishing waters start where our jetty ends.

Cod, coalfish, halibut — the waters around Averøy have fed this coast for a thousand years. Take a boat out in the morning and cook your own catch in your kitchen the same evening.

Ask us where the fish are biting. We live here — we usually know.
