Our Museum

Step inside the red boathouse and you step back a century. The museum sits right on the Ekkilsøy property and is free to visit at any point during your stay. It holds the working memory of the local fishing community — a collection built up over generations and kept exactly as it was.

Inside you'll find a rope-making machine that once served boats out of Bergen, coils of line and hand-knotted nets stacked on pine shelves, old bottles left on a corner shelf as if their owners just stepped out, and a shark suspended from the ceiling beams — a catch that made a good story and never came down.

The main room has a long table and heavy chairs where fishermen once gathered. The tools, signs, instruments and objects are not labelled or curated — they're just there, in the same corners they've occupied for decades. A quiet, unhurried place to spend half an hour.
